Removal of 3rd Grade Science Teacher from Ardmore Elementary

I'm writing you today to tell you about what happened with my daughter at Ardmore Elementary.

On September 12th, I was informed by the Principal that my daughter's 3rd grade teacher was moved to teach Kindergarten at the same school.  The reason for the removal was due to population counts, but from my understanding there are sixty-six 3rd graders at Ardmore and now with only 2 teachers; it increases each class to 30+ students.  This is unacceptable.  As you know, 3rd grade is a transitional grade; moreover, this grade takes the MSA for the first time.  I believe these teachers deserve to give our children every opportunity to make a good showing on this exam.  With an overcrowded classroom, I don't believe the teachers can adequately prepare our students.

Being a product of PG county schools, I attended Melwood, James Madison and finished High School at Frederick Douglass.  I am a proponent of public education because I believe we are all entitled to a quality education.  People shouldn't have to send their children to private schools; we need to make our public schools better!   I would be negligent if I stood by and went silent because every young person deserves the best education even in the public school system.

Sincerely,
