From the Ardmore PTA President

Welcome to a new school year!  My name is Ta Tanisha Baker, and I’m the new Ardmore PTA President.  This year, the PTA surveyed the teachers to understand how the PTA can help them better serve our children.  Many teachers requested more volunteers in the school, so in response, I am introducing my 10-10-10 plan:  10 volunteers, 10 hours a month for 10 months.  If you have time during the week to assist in the classrooms, or monitor the lunch/recess hour, then we need to hear from you.

In addition to recruiting volunteers, we have set the following fundraising goals which include 6 color Laser Jet printers, 500 reams of paper, 5 scholarships to North Bay Adventure camp and $50.00 Staples/Office Depot cards for the
teachers.  To reach these goals, the PTA will host 3 major fundraisers, our annual Fish Fry, Kids Night Out (Double-Feature movie night) and a Family Comedy Night/Silent Auction.

For our family events, the PTA will offer Rita’s Italian Ice at the kick-off PTA meeting in September, and an Ice Cream Social/Game Night in October, and Spirit Nights at local restaurants throughout the school year.  Also, at each PTA meeting, we’ll be presenting ‘Student of the Month’ awards.  Every month, a student from each class will be selected as the Student of the Month.  Students will be selected by the Ardmore teachers.

In closing, to improve our communication with parents, we’ll provide the option of receiving Text Message reminders on your smart phone.  To join, TEXT @385a to 301-805-6848 to keep up to date on Ardmore PTA events, meetings and breaking school news.  We’ll also continue providing traditional flyers as well.
